Mother Mountain

Moel Famau is the legendary hill of childhood, its ascent a kind of allegorical rite of passage for generations of Liverpudlians. In this new painting, I have created a partially imagined view of the Mother Mountain.


Tree of Life

A new painting from the studio. Far from being apocalyptic, this work is intended to bring some joy from its depiction of a barren mountain – imagined somewhere in Wales.


Warbler and Pyx

Every bird is essentially an elaborate container of life, like us however there is perhaps a more subtle dimension out of the reach of science. Some species in particular have a quality of voice, behaviour or plumage particularly suggestive of this, and a painting of the Subalpine Warbler seeks to illustrate the case.


The Blue Fort

Some places live long in the memory. In a corner of East Sussex is the remarkable cinque port of Rye and on the lonely marshes of Winchelsea, Camber Castle which is the subject of this watercolour.


Chingle Hall

For those familiar with the image and title of this work, the subject needs no further introduction. This painting depicts a private hall in Lancashire celebrated for its history and individual character.
