St Catherine (Katherine) of Alexandria was a 4th century Egyptian saint and martyr. John has recently written an icon of Catherine using traditional media and techniques.

Rather than conventionally illustrate her means of martyrdom, Catherine is depicted with her palm of victory. Whilst the circumstances of her birth are not known, Catherine is understood to have been of a royal lineage and this is reflected in her jewelled robes and her crown.
