Material Matters is an exhibition programme led by a new Liverpool-based artists’ collective. Its aim is to explore how the most unpredictable and challenging art can emerge out of a direct and physical engagement with materials.
In a world where physical materials have become increasingly disposable while the virtual worlds in which we increasingly operate involve no physical materials at all, the artist’s role, to produce something that cherishes materials has become ever more important. Our artists work with a diverse range of media as in an exploration of human interaction within the material world.

Material Matters Act 1 is the first exhibition from the collective and will be held at The Well Studios in central Liverpool. Act 1 will present work by Liverpool-based artists John Elcock, Frances Heap, Simon Job, Angelo Madonna, Attila Olah and Miriam Sakwa who will work with media including paper, wood, fabric, plastic, cardboard, clay, photography, dust and concrete.
