EXHIBITION: Bridewell Studios, Liverpool UK, 13-15 December 2018

The third exhibition from artists of the Material Matters collective is to be held at the Bridewell Studios, Liverpool from 13-15 December 2018.

Act 3 from Material Matters is their first inter-studio collaboration and includes new contributions from John Elcock plus four resident artists of the historic Bridewell Studios.

Material Matters was founded in 2018 and is an artist-led, co-curated series of exhibitions divided into ‘Acts’. The ethos of the collective is to create original and often challenging artwork through the re-interpretation of raw materials, the recycling of media or the re-purposing of found objects.

The eleven artists participating in Act 3 are John Elcock, Fiona Filby, Josie Jenkins, Simon Job, Frank Linnett, Angelo Madonna, Tabitha Moses, Miriam Sakwa, Andy Small and Laura Sullivan. Elcock will be exhibiting a structural installation created for Act 3 recreating a medieval monastic cell.

Each Act invites the artists to reflect on the altering of function, status or lifespan of materials they deploy in order to create new forms and meanings.

Act 3 features ready-made and site-specific work created by the Bridewell and Material Matters artists working in collaboration over the preceding two-week period. The unique spaces within the former police station will be exploited both in the creation and contextualisation of new artwork.

Limited edition prints created from the collective’s previous two Acts will be available to purchase at the preview event at the Bridewell Studios on the 12th December 2018 from 6.30pm.
